Sergio Garcia will not play Open Irish after the omission of the Ryder Cup

Sergio Garcia withdrew from Irish Open this week, telling Golfmagic that the bite not to be chosen for the Ryder Cup led to his decision.

The Spaniard was not part of Captain Luke Donald’s range of range for Team Europe before his confrontation against the United States with Black Bethpage later this month.

Donald’s decision was not a huge surprise; Garcia had only one Top-10 in her last eight golf event events in the 2025 season.

But that has always left a little bit of bite, according to the Ryder Cup points-details of all time and a participant 10 times in the competition.

“I felt like I was looking forward to being part of this team, and so I felt mentally, you know, mentally it was a bit difficult (to play in Irish open),” Garcia told Golfmagic.

“I didn’t want to go there and not be fully engaged in the tournament and all that, so I just decided to take a little time and spend it with family and do a few things, you know, things outside the golf course and just restart a little, recharge the batteries.”

One of these things was to visit the US Open – the Tennis version – while Garcia looked at compatriot Carlos Alcaraz beat Jiri Lehecka in the quarter -finals on Tuesday.

After the victory, Alcaraz said he was planning to play golf on Wednesday with Garcia, the 2017 masters champion.

“He must give me at least between 10 and 15 shots,” said Alcaraz. “It’s going to be great. I’m not so good, Sergio, come on.”
