Nikola Jokić ties record for most triple-doubles in season opener

Nikola Jokić records 4th consecutive triple-double

Nikola Jokić had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, tying an NBA record with his fourth straight triple-double to start the season, as the Denver Nuggets beat the winless New Orleans Pelicans 122-88 on Wednesday night.

Jokić joined Oscar Robertson (1961-62) and Russell Westbrook (2020-21) as the only players to start a season with four consecutive triple-doubles. These are the only players Jokic trails on the career triple-doubles list; the three-time MVP now has 168, Robertson has 181 and Westbrook holds the record with 203.

Jokic shot 10 of 15 from the field and played 28 minutes. He missed the fourth quarter after the Nuggets went on a 24-0 run in the third period to open a 33-point lead.

No player has ever started a season with five consecutive triple-doubles. Jokić will have the chance to become the first when the Nuggets visit the Trail Blazers on Friday night in the Emirates NBA Cup Group Play opener for both teams.
