Iowa snowfall totals: See how much accumulated Saturday
Several additional centimeters have accumulated in some areas.
TOMORROW EVENING AND ZANE’S GOOD NEWS FOR TOMORROW IS THAT THEY WON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE SNOW. They might want to group together a little more. YES YOU WILL. You’ll find more sunshine as we head into tomorrow, KAYLA. And it will still be quite cold. NOT AS COOL AS THIS SOMETIMES. LAST WEEK WE FINISHED THE SNOW BUT TONIGHT. RIGHT NOW YOU CAN SEE MOST OF IT GENERALLY FALLING ON THE EASTERN HALF OF IOWA. STILL A FEW FLAKES TOWARDS FORT DODGE, WEBSTER CITY. THESE ARE JUST THE RESISTANTS. It’s a bit of a back edge. Most of western Iowa is over, with just a few clouds, and visibility not as bad here in downtown Des Moines as we saw earlier. So we only have a few flakes left. So tomorrow, yes, we will be cold once dry from the snow last night. WIND CHILL WOULD BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS OR COLDER, DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU ARE TOMORROW. DURING THE DAY, THERE ARE MORE CHANCES OF SNOW TOO, AS WE ARE LEADING INTO NEXT WEEK WITH TWO WEATHER SYSTEMS THAT WE HAVE MENTIONED. Yeah, there are some problems with the holiday earlier today. There was some cool stuff that was going to at least happen. IN SOME LOCATIONS IN ANKENY IN THE PRAIRIE TRAIL AREA, THE NEIGHBORHOOD SHINED IN THE DISTRICT LIKE THEIR EVENT THEY HAD EARLIER. LEE TOOK THIS SPECTACULAR PHOTO THERE OF THE CITY OF ANKENY FIREWORKS AFTER, YOU KNOW, THERE WERE ALL KINDS OF EVENTS AND SANTA WAS THERE AND THE TREE WAS LIT AND EVERYTHING else. WATCH THE KIDS ENJOY THE HOLIDAY FIREWORKS WITH THIS NEW SNOW EARLIER THIS EVENING. NOW THE SNOW IS OBVIOUSLY CAUSING A LITTLE BIT OF VERY VERY TRAVEL BUT OUTSIDE SOME ROADS STILL COVERED IN SNOW. THIS IS ALL OF OUR INTERSTATES AND ALSO HIGHWAY 20 AROUND IOWA. YOU GO TO I-35 ON THE EAST SIDE. AMES TOWNSHIP. YOU KNOW THAT THE LEFT LANE IS PRETTY SNOWY. Same case on I-80 as you head toward Newton. The West Mixmaster looks a little better here in Des Moines, just because there’s probably been more traffic on it to melt some of the snow, but that’s a bit of a deal. Mainly the snow roads around the Des Moines area and all of our major highways and thoroughfares and then east and north, it’s basically the good deal here, 100% snow roads, generally here, where you see all the pink, a little bit of improvement, already starting across western Iowa. Where the snow ended a little bit early and then in southern Iowa, you’re generally seasonal roads just because you haven’t really had a lot of snow and maybe had an uneven mix throughout the day. THE SNOW IS ENDING NOW AS THE BACK EDGE OF THE SNOW CONTINUES EASTWARD HERE AS WE WORK FOR THE REST OF TONIGHT. Once we arrived around midnight, I think we were almost completely done. MAYBE PEOPLE TOWARDS, SAY, SIGOURNEY, GRINNELL or OTTUMWA MIGHT STILL HAVE A FEW FLAKES FOR A LITTLE LONG TIME, AND THEN NOTICE OUR CLOUDS START TO DISAPPEAR FROM NORTH TO SOUTH AS WE HEAD TOWARDS DAWN TOMORROW THERE WILL BE A SALE COLD, BUT, As this system develops. GET OUT OF HERE. WINDS, IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY OUT TO THE WEST, WILL BEGIN GUSTING FROM THE NORTH THIS EVENING AROUND 2020 FIVE MILES PER HOUR. This is where we will begin tomorrow, but look to the day when your winds subside. So really, from the afternoon onwards, things improved. ON YOUR SUNDAY, THE SUN COMES OUT AND WE HAVE LESS COLD WIND. BUT IT’S STILL COLD. So you wake up to tomorrow’s wind chill. THIS IS PART OF THE REASON WE HAVE SOME CHURCHES THAT HAVE CANCELED. We have teens below zero, Fort Dodge, Humboldt, Clarion, Eagle Grove and elsewhere. TO THE NORTH, HIGHWAY 20 SINGLE DIGIT BELOW TOWARDS HIGHWAY 30, JUST AROUND ZERO HERE IN DES MOINES, AND SINGLE DIGIT ACROSS SOUTHERN IOWA. EVEN INTO THE AFTERNOON, WITHOUT A TON OF IMPROVEMENT, MOST OF US ONLY IN SINGLE DIGITS AT BEST FOR YOUR AFTERNOON WIND CHILLS. Now that both of these systems are coming next week, we’ll show you at least one of them early next week. WE WARM UP FIRST AROUND MONDAY. WE’RE GETTING INTO THE 20’S. WE’LL GET INTO THE 30’S. IN FACT, MONDAY NIGHT IS CONTINUOUSLY HOT UNTIL TUESDAY, BUT IT’S ALL BEFORE ANOTHER OF THOSE FAST-MOVING LOW PRESSURE CENTERS. THIS CLIPPER IS COMING OUT QUICKLY FROM THE NORTH, AND THE WEST COULD ACTUALLY BRING US A CHANCE OF SOME RAIN, BUT ALSO 40S TUESDAY. AND THEN LATE TUESDAY EVENING, A FEW ADDITIONAL FLURRIES ARE POSSIBLE AS THIS COLD PART OF THIS SYSTEM ZOOMS IN AND A COLD WIND DRIVES OUR TEMPERATURES DOWN. SO WE ARRIVE IN THE 40S. TUESDAY WE RETURN UNDER THE FROST. WEDNESDAY THERE IS ANOTHER CHANCE OF SNOW ON THURSDAY, AND THEN WE WILL GET INTO COLD WEATHER WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE TEENS. LIKE US H
