Scott Miller, longtime beloved baseball writer, died at 62

Longtime baseball writer Scott Miller died on Saturday at 62, Bob Nighenngale d’USA Today shared for the first time on social networks.
“Baseball has lost a giant. Scott Miller was an even better brilliant writer and human,” published Nighingale on X. “His gift for the narration embodied his kind soul and heart. I loved him, just like the chance to know him. Please keep Kim, Gretchen and my family in prayer.”
Miller, who has been covering the MLB for over 30 years, recently worked as a contributor to the New York Times and also published the book “Skipper: Why Baseball Managers Matter and Will” a little over a month ago.
Several sports writers paid tribute to Miller and his contributions to the industry.
“It’s so horrible,” said ESPN analyst Jeff Passan, on X. “Scott Miller was as nice as a guy you would find him in the press – and a very talented writer to start. A sad sad day.”
Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman of the Post each offered their condolences to Miller with his family on social networks.

“Amazing Scott was able to finish his book last month,” added Heyman in a separate article. “It’s great!”

“Scott was tirelessly in a business too often in kindness,” said Sherman in a post X. “His loss will be felt by the entire baseball community that admired his talent and decency.”
Miller started his career as Twins Beat Reporter for St. Paul Pioneer Press, and also worked for CBS Sports and Bleacher Report as well as to be an analyst at MLB Network Radio.
Following the news of his death, MLB published a statement making their respect.
“Tonight, we remember Scott Miller – a real gentleman, a class act and an expert in his profession who loved our national hobby,” said MLB in the press release. “We express our deepest condolences to his loved ones and his readers throughout the game.”
