Scott Bakula’s proposed Star Trek spin-off will reveal a major moment of frankness

What is the next step for “Star Trek” after “Strange New Worlds” ends with season 5? Field could throw the franchise even further in the past until the end of the 22nd century, the first years of the United Planet Federation.
The idea comes from actor Scott Bakula, former star of “Star Trek: Enterprise” and the writer / producer “Enterprise” Mike Sussman. “Enterprise” was a set prequel in the 2150s, a decade before the Federation Foundation. Bakula played Jonathan Archer, captain of the first Starship company. Unfortunately, “Enterprise” only ran four seasons – a real shame, because the show passed the seasons 3 and 4 to broadcast its wings after a difficult start.
“Enterprise” revealed that ACHER would ultimately be president of the federation from 2184 to 2192 as a background detail. Bakula and Sussman made the node of their land, “Star Trek: United”, which (if he is picked up) will follow Archer during his presidential mandate. In comments to Trekmovie (which first announced the news), Sussman said that he thought that “United” could not only be “the western wing” in space, but also the response “Star Trek” to “Andor”, that is to say a more political and anchored series.
Sussman revealed some details on the field, including what he plans as the opening scene of the series: Archer and his team fighting in the Terrestrial-Romular War. Or, as Sussman says, a scene from season 7 of “Enterprise” which has never been:
“Something that has become clear for me since we started talking about it is that fans say they have never seen the Romulans war. We were waiting for it, and you guys [in the ‘Enterprise’ series finale]. And I share their frustration. So I would like to show [some of] This, and a particular pivotal moment which is not only a pure fans service. The scene would actually present a very important character for the show in the future. “”
The Romulian war remains the best story of Star Trek never told
The Romulians are among the oldest “Star Trek” bad guys who are there, making his debut in the original series “Star Trek” during the “Balance of Terror” episode. This episode revealed that, 100 years ago, Starfleet and the Romulians fought an interplanetary who ended with them declaring a neutral zone between their territories.
Season 4 of “Enterprise” had started to accumulate in the Romulian war, with plans for war to become THE Focus of the show if he had obtained a fifth season and beyond. The episode “Kir’Shara” established that the Romules had infiltrated the Vulcan company, all part of the long -standing match to “meet” (read: conquer) their cousins lost for a long time.
A three -part arc “Enterprise” (“Babel One”, “United” and “The Aenar”) then linked the Federation’s expansion foundation to Romulien. Humans, Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites form an alliance against Romulian attacks, the first step that the four species take the merger as a federation. The Romulan war transforms this into a permanent alliance.
Due to the cancellation of the series, fans of “Enterprise” had to settle for novels (“under the Raptor’s Wing” and “Braver The Storm” by Michael A. Martin) telling the war. To date, the conflict has never been represented on the screen in a “Star Trek” production.
“Balance of Terror” established that humans had never seen the Romulians during the war, which was fought with “primitive” atomic weapons and vessels. These details do not really correspond to technology in “Enterprise”. The series was diligent on the main characters who never saw the Romulians, and Sussman sees these coats and models as an opportunity.
“It almost seems that the federation, or the people of the earth as well as the Romulians, do not want the Vulcans to know who they are. And why would it be? I think it is a very intriguing question. I certainly have my ideas.”
What corporate characters would return alongside President Archer?
Although “United” can probably not represent the whole Romulian war, Sussman has deduced that the Romulians could always present more subtle bad guys. He mentioned an “enterprise” character he would like to bring back is Talok (Todd Stashwick) of “Kir’shara”, a Romulan spy who pretended to be a vulcan. Stashwick has since played Captain Shaw on “Star Trek: Picard”. Maybe he could draw the double duty and resume the two roles on different “trek” shows.
What about other characters, like Jeffrey Combs as an antorian Frenemy, who has become just a friend, Shran? Sussman replied that the cameos should be worth it.
“The problem with the return distribution is, you cannot have Jeff Combs [as Shran] Just go to a meeting and say: “Just on Mr. President”, then disappear. They must be an integral part of the story. That said, I would like everyone to come back in one way or another. “”
Jolene BLALOCK, who played the first officer of the Vulcan d’Archer, T’Pol on “Enterprise”, is mainly withdrawn, but she recently made a gypsy voice as T’Pol on “Star Trek: Lower Decks”. However, Sussman stressed that there would be a lot of concentration on the new characters, that is to say the children of Archer (adults), who occupy different roles themselves through the Federation.
“Archer would be in a place of his life where Scott in a way is at this moment, where Scott is a father. He has four adult children. And I therefore gave Archer four adult children, and the story is as much about them as him.”
On this note: the final of the series “Enterprise” “These are the trips …” jumped in 2161, ending with the foundation ceremony of the Federation. “United” would take 23 years later. In the real world, it has been 20 years since “enterprise” has disappeared, so the timing is good for Archer to take another blow.
