The American scientific company faces an unprecedented assault. The current administration strives to cap indirect research costs at 15% (1), to stop the revisions of subsidies from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to reduce the budget of NIH 2026 by 44% (3), to reduce the national oceanic and atmospheric budget (NOAA) by 27% (4), and to cancel 20% of the funds for the environmental protection agency (EPA) (5). The decrees forced agencies to delete terms such as the “gender” of public health research (6); Erase the terms related to the climate of government websites (6, 7); and eliminate the diversity, equity and inclusion programs (DEI) (8). The scientific community must protest against these policies in a strong and united voice.
