Trump officials seek to block abortion services in the Hospitals of veterans | Trump administration

The Trump administration seeks to prevent veterans from receiving abortions in hospitals led by the Ministry of Veterans in the event of rape or incest, or when the pregnancy of a veteran has jeopardized its health, according to new documents filed by the administration.
The Administration seeks to bring back a policy of the Biden era which, for the first time, enabled the VA to advise veterans and their family members eligible for abortion, as well as to propose the procedure to veterans in limited circumstances, even in the states which prohibited abortion after the US Supreme Court which canceled Roe V Wade in 2022.
More than a dozen states prohibit practically all abortions. In 2024, more than half of women veterans live in states that prohibit abortion or are likely to do so, according to the National Partnership for Women & Families.
However, in a Friday file in the federal register, the Trump administration said that the Biden era policy was “legally questionable” and out of step with the actions of the congress which limited the ability of the VA to provide abortions. Anti-abortion activists have spent years pleading against federal funding for access to abortion of all kinds. Due to their efforts, it is already illegal to use federal dollars to pay abortions, except in the event of rape, incest or medical emergency.
In his file, the administration said that, despite the withdrawal, the veterans who make false layers or extrautterin pregnancies – which are non -viable pregnancies in which an implant embryo outside the uterus – would always be able to receive care. Veterans could also obtain abortions “when a doctor certifies that the mother’s life would be in danger if the fetus was transported in the long term”. (The Veterans Department did not respond to a request for comments at the time of publication.)
However, administration insurance can deal with practical obstacles in states that prohibit abortion. Since Roe fell, dozens of women have said they were refused medically necessary abortions, despite the fact that abortion bans generally allow abortions in situations where a person’s health or life is threatened. Doctors also said that because abortion prohibitions are formulated ambiguously, they often do not know if or when they can intervene to end dangerous pregnancies. Instead, doctors were forced to delay care until patients fall into sick enough for them to be legally intervened.
“Those who are fighting for all our freedom must have the most fundamental freedom to control their own body and future – and this rule in a boil,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America on Monday. “The abolition of access to health care shows us that the Trump administration will always put the policy and remuneration for people’s lives.”
The decline in the Biden era policy has not yet been finalized. The public has until the beginning of September to comment on the Trump administration proposal.
