Running Man star Glen Powell’s mortifying moment with Dustin Hoffman

The running man star, Glen Powellrecently revealed one of her most embarrassing moments in Hollywood. The actor claimed his script reading with Dustin Hoffman went so horribly that he could see “the life draining from his eyes.”

During a recent episode of The hot oneshosted by Sean Evans, Powell recalled his early days in the entertainment industry. He said he was star-struck at the time, and Hoffman was no exception. He said that the first time they met, Kramer vs. Kramer the actor praised his performance in The great debaters. His compliment stunned Powell. He was thrilled to have had such a positive reaction to the film and his acting skills.

My first week, I found myself at a dinner sitting next to Dustin Hoffman. I was sitting next to him and he saw a movie I made called The Great Debaters. The fact that [he] I saw this film which blew me away. I was like, “This is the coolest moment of my life.” » He said, “You’re a good actor.” I was like, ‘Oh man, thanks.’

Things only got better for him when Hoffman told him he had a potential role he would like him to read for (Powell never revealed the name of the film). “He says, “I have something, I have something for you.” Let’s stay in touch.‘”And, to his surprise, he received a phone call from the iconic actor shortly after, inviting him to his house.”I’m losing my mind, I’m like, “This is the coolest thing.” » He said, “I’m going to invite you into my office and I want you to read for something.”»

Of course, he jumped at the offer. Unfortunately, his enthusiasm quickly turned to disappointment after he started reading. Powell said his nerves got to him because he idolized Hoffman. “I started reading, but I was so impressed that Dustin Hoffman was sitting across from me. He’s one of my favorite actors of all time. As I read, I watch the life drain from his eyes, thinking, “This guy is so bad. » And I was like, ‘Oh no.’“, he explained.

He remembered how horrible he had felt when it was time to leave. “I’m watching him. I’m losing it. And then I’m like, “Yeah, you’re losing it,” and then I look back, and I’m losing it even more. And I left so defeated“.

Although the experience was mortifying, Powell learned lessons from it. He said he came to realize that celebrities, even big ones, are ultimately just people. After working in the industry for so long, he learned to view them as colleagues rather than idols. He made it clear that he is always happy to meet and work with people he admires. However, he also knows how to behave normally around them now.

You start to think of these guys as legends, and then you start to think of them as collaborators who are just trying to create magic for audiences around the world, you know? I think that’s the difference. I think the enthusiasm for this activity has not dissipated, but my perspective has.

The running man will be released in theaters on November 14, 2025.
