Holger Rune had his campaign in the ATP 1000 tournament in Cincinnati for the start of theft, when he defeated Russian Roman Safiullin 7-5, 7-6.
Danish tennis star Holger Rune kicked The Head in his first match at the ATP Masters 1000 Cincinnati Open tournament against Roman Safiullin when a Russian service struck the dune in the face.
Safiullin closed a match with his hard service at the start of the match, and the Russian later approached Holger Rune to apologize.
Rune, however, recovered, and the seventh seeded Dane made his way until the third round with a victory of 7-5, 7-6.
The Danish was classified in the first round and entered the match as a favorite against Safiullin, who is not 80 years old in the world ranking.
The Dane won the two previous meetings between the two players last year.
But Safiullin showed a lot of promises in the first stages of the match on Saturday, and he had the opportunity to move forward 4-1 in the first set after having broken the Rune service, but the Dane immediately broken and reduced the deficit to 2-3.
Hoger Rune then broke Safiullin again at 4-4, but then failed to take advantage of two adjustment points while Russian parity restored.
However, Safiullin could not prevent Rune from breaking his service again and the Dane then took advantage of his third point with a winner of the forehand to win the first set.
In the second set, the two players showed great stability in the service, so the set must have been decided during an equality break. At 5-5 in the equality break, Holger Rune delivered a big winner of the forehand, and the Dane then converted his first match point to close the match.
Holger Rune recorded its best result at the Cincinnati Open last year, when he reached the semi-finals. In the third round, Holger Rune will meet Alex Michelsen from the United States or French Corentin Moutet.
