RUMOR: Marvel has its own plans for the Symbiote

Spider-Man: A Whole New Day has so far generated even more speculation and enthusiasm than that of next December. Avengers: Apocalypse. Unsurprisingly, the rumor mill continues to churn out a seemingly endless series of wild claims about what to expect from the wall-crawler’s MCU return.

There has been a lot of speculation about whether the Venom Symbiote will be factored into the film, something that Scorpion actor Michael Mando teased on social media for several weeks when he was first added to the film’s cast.

In the comics, Mac Gargan eventually becomes Venom, so Marvel Studios could move past Eddie Brock and go straight for him in this new trilogy (the door seems to have been well and truly closed on Tom Hardy’s version of this character ever meeting Tom Holland’s web-slinger).

There have already been discussions about taking Symbiote into account in Spider-Man: A Whole New Dayand the latest update from insider Daniel Richtman adds further fuel to the fire.

“I heard Marvel wanted their own version of the Symbiote, whatever that means,” he wrote about X before speculating, “Maybe it’s not Tom Hardy.”

Holland should not appear in Avengers: Apocalypseand if he does, it will probably just be for an appearance. However, it is expected to play a much larger role in Avengers: Secret Warsand we are sure you all remember it was in the original Secret Wars comic that Peter Parker first encountered his alien costume.

Earlier this year, Hardy opened up about the Spider-Man crossover that never was. “I loved playing Eddie in Venom” the actor began. “Juggling chainsaws. Put me on a unicycle and throw everything at me! I was really trying to push myself as much as I could.”

“But I had no Spider-Man! No Avengers! It’s just us. Until these bridges were crossed.” he stopped. “It’s way beyond my control. And I would love to do that, but it’s not even a conversation to have on my level, to just be a player in this world.”

Hardy added, “That’s the game. We played Sony’s counterpoint to Disney’s Marvel panoply, including [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige has a huge amount of cards, and Sony has a huge amount of cards in their own right, including Spider-Man, and there’s just no crossover. We would love to cross! This did not happen. That’s what happens, and it’s one of those things. »

Spider-Man: A Whole New Day shares a title with a divisive era of comic book storytelling, which, thanks to a deal with Mephisto to save his dying Aunt May, saw the crawler get a new start when his marriage to Mary Jane Watson ended and his identity became a secret again. He faced many sinister new foes during this time and was surrounded by a new supporting cast, including Mister Negative, Jackpot, Menace, Carlie Cooper and Freak.

In the MCU, all signs point to Spidey teaming up with – and at one point fighting – The Punisher to take on a Savage Hulk, with The Scorpion thrown in for good measure. The street adventure promises to resolve a major plot thread from 2017. Spider-Man: Homecomingwhen Mac Gargan swore revenge on the wall crawler.

Several other villains are expected to appear in the film, including Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang and Ramrod. There has also been some discussion online about factoring the Symbiote into the story, potentially paving the way for Mac Gargan to don the alien costume as Venom (presumably after Avengers: Secret Wars).

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton directs Spider-Man: A Whole New Day from a script by returning Spiderman franchise writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

Tom Holland plays Spider-Man in a cast that also includes Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Sadie Sink, Michael Mando (The Scorpion), Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) and Liza Colón-Zayas. Love at first sight* star Florence Pugh should take it back Love at first sight* role of Elena Belova.

Spider-Man: A Whole New Day will be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
