Rubio shrinks foreign officials who censor Americans with new visa rules

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced new restrictions on the visas that the Trump administration implements against the foreign authorities who, according to her, are “accomplices” to censor the Americans.

“For too long, the Americans have been condemned to a fine, harassed and even accused by the foreign authorities for having exercised their rights to freedom of expression,” wrote Rubio on X. “Today, I am announcing a new visa restriction policy that will apply to foreign officials and people who are accomplices to censor Americans.

“Foreigners working to undermine the rights of Americans should not take advantage of the privilege of traveling to our country,” added the first American diplomat. “Whether in Latin America, Europe or elsewhere, the days of passive treatment for those who work to undermine the rights of the Americans are finished.”

The United States has long condemned censorship and repression by the Chinese Communist Party, Russia and Iranian and Cuban regimes, but the Trump administration recently added criticism of the allies in the European Union.

Vice-president JD Vance argued that the EU digital service law could effectively export European style censorship to the United States by pressure against American technological companies.

In February, Vance accused European leaders of the Munich security conference of deleting dissident opinions by categorizing these points of view as a “disinformation” and “disinformation”.

The vice-president specifically cited the Pursuits of the United Kingdom on silent prayer outside a clinic of abortion, the cancellation of the alleged elections of 2024 on an alleged foreign interference, the condemnation of a Christian activist in Sweden for having burned a Koran and Germany.

“What worries me is the threat of the interior – the retirement of Europe of some of its most fundamental values,” said Vance at the time.
