Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Availability for Australia Tour is centered on the agenda, says Grande India

The former Indian Maestro Sunil Gavaskar exclaimed that the availability of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for Australia Odis is motivated by the agenda that they are the same opposition against which India lost in the World Cup final in 2023.

India will visit Australia for an ODI series of three games on October 19, then it will be followed by a 5 -game T20I series, which is expected to start on October 29. This series marks the preparations for the next ICC 2027 World Cup in South Africa, while Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were appointed to the team by the BCCI chief selector, Ajit Agarkar.

Sunil Gavaskar noted the Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli agenda behind the availability of the ODI

Sunil Gavaskar firmly believed that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had been made available because it was a series against Australia. The Australians were the only opposition against which India had lost in the previous edition of the 2023 World Cup.

He also added that if the series had been against the Antilles or the Mena like Zimbabwe, then the two would not have made themselves available, and the hiatus would have continued.

“I am pretty much certain that if it was a trip to Zimbabwe or the Antilles, the two would not have been available. But because it is in Australia, and because India lost against Australia in the World Cup final, that is perhaps the reason why the two decided, yes, I want to be available for that,” he told India Today.

“It depends to a large extent on the number of games of a day on which India plays”, Gavaskar quotes the criteria for selecting the World Cup for RO-KO

Even the legend of the Indian stick admitted that the road to the selection of the World Cup would indeed be very difficult for Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Indeed, they withdrew from the two other formats of the game, and their selection depends largely on the playing time.

“It depends to a large extent on the number of day games that India plays in the next two years. Listen, it is not easy to play only seven or eight ODI in a season while preparing for something as large as a World Cup,” he said.

“For these eight white ball games, there are probably five T20 and three ODI. This does not give much in terms of exhibition or practice for players approaching these last stages of their career,” he added.

Sunil Gavaskar also asks Indian legends to play in the Vijay-hazare trophy

The alignment with the views of the Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Sunil Gavaskar also underlined the need for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to make himself available for the next edition of the Vijay Hazare trophy. It would be essential to keep their World Cup dreams alive because India has a very limited international calendar in the 50 format.

“They will have to play the Vijay Hazare trophy in India whenever it is planned, if it does not come up against ODI international tournaments. It is a way of staying in the filling and maintaining the practice of the match,” he said.
