I always love coming here and playing here – Rohit Sharma

The 38-year-old cricketer now plays only in the ODI format, after retiring from Test and T20I cricket. There has been much speculation about the future of his international career.

After the Sydney ODI, Rohit spoke about his fond memories of playing in Australia since 2008, saying he always loved competing there regardless of his achievements.

“I love coming here and playing here. Good memories from 2008. I don’t know if we will come back to Australia, but we enjoy our cricket, whatever accolades we get,” Rohit said after being named Player of the Match and Player of the Series.

Rohit will be 40 and Kohli 39 by the time the 2027 ODI World Cup rolls around. Rohit was recently removed from the ODI captaincy as the selectors do not consider him a guaranteed choice for the tournament. He will need to continue to perform at the highest level to maintain his place in the team.

After winning the toss, Australia opted to bat first in the third ODI, but struggled to put up a big total. Matt Renshaw scored 56 from 58 balls and captain Mitchell Marsh added 41 from 50 deliveries. The hosts were bowled out for 236 in 46.4 overs. Harshit Rana took 4 wickets for 39 runs in his 8.4 overs.

India started their run with openers Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma adding 69 runs. After Gill was dismissed for 24, Virat Kohli joined Rohit at No. 3. Rohit scored his 33rd ODI century, while Kohli contributed an unbeaten 74. They added an unbeaten partnership of 168 runs for the second wicket.

Although Australia won the series 2-1, the exceptional partnership between Rohit and Kohli stole the show in Sydney. The duo will next take part in the three-match home ODI series against South Africa, starting from November 30 in Ranchi.
