Rods as a function of the head break in the Daphne Schmon lens

Daphne Schmon is not unrelated to Cannes, after having launched his non -profit organization, breaking the objective, during the festival in 2018. The group’s objective is to help all the filmmakers who experience marginalization because of their kind to finance their projects.
While crossing the objective is now a presence at Sundance festivals in Venice, Schmon knows the ins and outs of the Croisette.
Below, she shared her back (packaging of dressings in waterproof bulbs) and not to do (eat in the hotel restaurants) of the French Fest.
Best good deal in Cannes?
It is almost impossible to find a good deal in Cannes, especially during the festival – but a few years ago, I discovered Taqueria Lupita. As a Mexican food, I was really impressed – authentic, tasty and surprisingly affordable. The service is fast and the tacos are perfect, making it the perfect stand between meetings or before a big evening.
Favorite meal in Cannes?
Nun house has become a staple food for our team from BRISE-L’OBjectif (BTTL). It has a comfortable trattoria style atmosphere and is hidden off the beaten track. The Pappardelle della Nonna is absolutely to die for, and they also serve excellent coffee and brunch. Nestled on Hoche Street, it’s just a stone throwing of the palace but feels worlds far from the bustle of the Croisette.
The most overrated restaurant?
Martinez beach – Or really one of the hotel restaurants. Do not fall into this trap. You will pay a fortune and you will feel very disappointed. If you want a sea view, take a sandwich or a pancake and head to one of the benches in the Croisette. Same seen, fewer stories.
Biggest Cannes False Pas?
Burn the candle at both ends. The temptation is real – sumptuous parties at the end of the evening, then meetings of early birds; But remember that the festival is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to punctuate yourself, stay hydrated and cut your moments to breathe. Otherwise, on the third day, you run on smoke, forget about names and try entire conversations with your sunglasses.
Best place to have a drink after 3 am?
Misfits Afterparty, without a doubt (if you can find it!). We had the pleasure of meeting AJ, Ramfis and the crew last year. It is one of the rare spaces that feels completely unpretentious – good music, great people and unique energy that is completely different from the rest of Cannes.
Place to avoid during the festival?
Any place with a velvet rope and a bouncer with a helmet that “checks the list”. Keep time – there is always a better party that goes somewhere without the Ego trip.
Your moment “only in Cannes”?
In 2018, I was invited to the Gala Positive Planet. At one point, Leonardo DiCaprio was on stage by selling a barbecue on his New York balcony. It sold for an astronomical amount. I remember thinking, Only in Cannes.
Biggest Cannes Pet Peeve?
People who treat each conversation as a field. As a person who runs a pitch initiative and works in close collaboration with investors, I can say – there is a moment and a place. I always remind our BTTL cohort that the best opportunities often come from authentic human connections, from undisped monologues. Ask questions, listen, be there. First build relationships – the rest will follow.
Cannes Guilty Pleasage?
A Kebab at the end of the evening of Dutch Berliner, without a doubt. After a long day of meetings, nothing strikes him. He is messy, full of flavor and strangely satisfactory – the perfect end of a very Cannes day.
The strangest asks you have ever received in Cannes?
I was online to watch a film in the light once, and a foreign total asked me to hold her property while she was walking on the red carpet. The woman did not come back for them before being myself at the top of the stairs. Moments like that always make me wish that people focus more on films than on photo sessions. After all, that’s why we are really there.
The most interesting meeting of celebrities?
Meet Diane Kruger in our BTTL panel last year was a real highlight. She was incredibly graceful and earth-to-earth, speaking of raising her young daughter and the importance of defending the directors. What struck me the most was the way she balances everything with such authenticity – being a mother, a world class actress, a businesswoman and always presenting herself to raise others. Total class act.
One thing without you not traveling, next to your phone?
Waterproof aids. “Cannes feet” are not a joke – especially for women in heels between palaces, meetings and events. These are a life buoy.
Attitude towards the calendar / reports on ovations standing during the first?
I do not think that the length of the ovation is the ultimate measure of the success of a film – but when it is real, you feel it in your bones. I will never forget the first of JoyDirected by Saim Sadiq. It was the first Pakistani film to have played in Cannes, and with a Trans advance – what a beautiful and courageous story. When the room broke out in applause, tears flowed on my face. You could feel the collective recognition of what this moment meant – not only for filmmakers, but for industry as a whole. Finishing a film in all circumstances is an admirable feat; Going to the world rod of Cannes and touching an audience in such a powerful way – it’s miraculous. These moments give you goosebumps and deserve an ovation.
