Road closures announced ahead of Madison Marathon | News

MADISON, Wis. — Ahead of the Madison Marathon this Sunday, Madison city officials have been gathering necessary preliminary information for visitors and runners.

Madison Marathon races, including the 10K, half marathon and full marathon, begin at 7 a.m. at Capitol Square, with the last runner finishing at 1:30 p.m. The full marathon will take runners through the scenic route from the UW Arboretum, Vilas Park, around Lake Monona and back to Capitol Square.

All roads on Place du Capitole should reopen on Sunday evening.

Wisconsin Avenue, between Mifflin Street and Dayton Street, as well as the 100 and 200 blocks of Martin Luther Jr. Boulevard will close starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.

After the Dane County Farmers Market, the following streets are expected to close:

  • Pinckney Street between King Street and East Mifflin Street
  • Mifflin Street between Pinkney Street and State Street
  • Main Street between Carroll Street and Pinckney Street
  • Carroll Street between State Street and Main Street
  • 100 blocks of East Washington Avenue

These roads will have total or partial lane closures during the marathon:

  • North Shore Drive/Proudfit Street
    • Lane closures on Monona Bay Street side
  • Park Street
    • Runners in the tapered lane between West Washington Avenue and Drake Street. Runners cross Cedar Street from 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.
  • Fish Hatchery Road
    • Runners crossing at West Wingra Drive from 7:15 a.m. to 8:10 a.m.
  • Washington Avenue West
    • Runners on conical route until 8 a.m.
  • Williamson/Winnebago
    • Runners crossing at Thornton Avenue
  • Monroe Street
  • Monona Drive between Winnequah Road and Margaret Street
  • Mifflin Street East
  • East Dayton Street

John Nolen Drive, East Washington Avenue, Johnson Street, Gorham Street, Campus Drive and Langdon Street will not be impacted by the marathon.
