Newcastle United would have sought to compete with Chelsea for the potential transfer of the Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens this summer.

The talented 20 -year -old drew attention to the Bundesliga and this led to a lot of speculation that he could soon return to the Premier League.

Gittens had a spell with Chelsea earlier in his career, as well as in the academies of Manchester City and Reading, but it remains to be seen in store after having made a probable departure from Dortmund.

According to the latest reports, Chelsea now seems to face serious competition for the signing of Gittens, because Newcastle has also strongly entered the race.

We imagine that the future of Gittens will become clearer once we know who will play in the Champions League next season.

It seems that it will be very close while the battle of the first five spends on the last day of the season, so Gittens will may have an eye on the results.

Fans will also rush to find out how to buy Nottingham Forest vs Chelsea tickets so that they can perhaps celebrate the qualification in the live champions League.

This could be a huge result, because Chelsea missing could mean that they can no longer go realistically to a signature like Gittens.

Chelsea cannot afford another bad transfer window

Chelsea really needs to do things with their signatures this year, because the current advice simply was not good enough with their recruitment.

A lot of money has been invested in young players for a long-term project, but it seems more and more clear now that only a few worked as expected.

Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have been great successes for CFC, but other signatures in recent times have been major flops, notably Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, Nicolas Jackson, Robert Sanchez and Romeo Lavia, and without what Jadon Sancho and Pedro Neto.

Gittens could perhaps be an intelligent signature to give the Londoners of the West an upgrade on Sancho and Neto, but the club may also start to sign more proven and experienced names to complete their young people.

It will be interesting to see how it takes place, and if qualification in the Champions League can be obtained this weekend to give Chelsea more options on the market in the weeks and months to come.
