Resurrection Stars David Zayas & Ntare Guma Mbaro Mwine on Chasing Dexter (exclusive)

Dexter: Resurrection Do an excellent job to increase the challenges every week, and episode 4 clearly indicated that Angel Batista is getting closer to the truth. Looking at Batista on the screen brings this old Miami metro energy, while the blessing (played by Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine) adds a whole new dynamic that we have not really seen before.

I caught up with David Zayas and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine to talk about the season so far, the implacable pursuit of Batista justice, and how the connection of the blessing with Dexter changes the game unexpectedly.

Rohan: David, Batista clearly has unfinished affairs with Dexter. How has her perspective changed since essentially Season 8? Batista has been pursuing responses for a long time. What does that mean for him to finally get closer to the truth?

David:: I think it’s great that it is the character of Batista to which they give this new revelation because Batista has always really, really had his integrity, and he was an honest cop. So he will not only want to go and find Dexter. I think he wants to do it legal. He wants to do it in the right way, and now he has to find out in another city where he does not have the authority he had in the Miami metro. So, I think it will be an interesting cat and mouse game and discover how he could really get justice for what he discovered.

Rohan: Ntare, the blessing becomes one of the new dexter allies – although, as David could tell you, it can be risky. What attracts the blessing to dexter, and what does he see in him?

Lion:: I play the character of the blessing, and I think he finds that he loves people. I play a taxi driver, and it is the kind of person who befriends everyone in his car. But there is something about Dexter who – he brings him home, literally, and welcomes him as part of the family. And I think it was something refreshing, because I do not know that, as you said, that people get closer to Dexter in the show, we will discover if it has serious consequences for my character or not. But I think it was really interesting that the writers chose to associate it in this way.

Rohan: David, while Batista begins to reconstruct things, he ends up ending up with Harrison. What do you think that Angel hopes to get him – from legitimate, justice or something more personal?

David:: With Harrison, you know, in the back, when we originally dexter, Jamie, Batista’s sister was doing Babysitting Harrison. So I watched this growing child, until what happened in the eighth season, then he disappeared. So, watch it, to discover it, then confront it and talk to it is very interesting, and it is also very confusing, you know, and it is always that you want to know exactly where they come from. And, when Batista speaks to Harrison, he wants to know where he is in his mind, because he has affection for Harrison. He has no maliciousness towards Harrison. He wants, you know, continue on the right track.

Dexter: Resurrection, a continuation of Dexter®: New Blood, takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan (Hall) took a bullet in the chest of his own son, while he wakes up a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) left without trace. Giving the weight of what he put through his son, Dexter leaves for New York, determined to find him and do things correctly. But the closure will not be easy. When the angel of Miami Metro Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes that his past catches up with him quickly. While the father and the son sail on their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they imagined – and that the only way out is together.
