“Republican voices are not heard”

Indiana State Senator Liz Brown spoke about the importance of redistricting efforts in the state during an interview on Breitbart News Saturdayand pointed out that conservative and Republican voices “are not being heard” in Washington, DC.
In speaking with Matthew Boyle, Breitbart News’ Washington bureau chief, Brown was asked why Indiana needs to redistrict and where things stand on the redistricting plan.
“We have to realize that this is a bigger issue than just which representatives we send out of the state of Indiana, because these are the nation’s representatives of the 435 who go to Washington to represent us in Congress,” Brown said.
“The numbers are skewed. When you look at states like Massachusetts, Connecticut, 60 to 40 D to R, zero Republicans. Indiana, 60 to 40 R to D, we were sending two Democrats. So whose voices are not being heard? Conservative and Republican voices are not being heard in Washington DC. I think we have been sleeping at the wheel,” Brown added.
Brown went on to explain that “legally” Indiana lawmakers are unable to do anything until Indiana Gov. Mike Braun (R) calls them back for a special session.
“Everyone in the process has been very respectful and patient,” Brown said, adding that it was her understanding that all 70 Republican representatives in the Indiana House of Representatives were “ready to go.”
“It’s just a matter of us getting the votes in the Senate, and I’m confident that when the bill comes up, it will pass,” Brown said.
Brown then explained that once the Indiana House and Senate pass the redistricting bill in the state, Braun will sign it and lawmakers can also “insert emergency legislation into the bill so that [it] comes into force immediately.
“It’s not complicated, it’s just a matter of the governor using the power he has to call us back and get us there – and that takes a while … to figure out, because we’re part-time legislators, so people have jobs and obligations and things like that.”
