Norvell was in his fourth season at CSU. The Rams were 8-5 in 2024, but fell back in 2025 and rank outside the top 100 in points scored and points allowed this season.

Colorado State went 18-26 in Norvell’s time with the school. The Rams have improved in each of his first three seasons, but have lost four of their last five games and are 1-2 in the Mountain West.

CSU is the ninth school to make a coaching change in the first eight weeks of the 2025 season after Billy Napier was fired at Florida earlier Sunday. Colorado State’s decision comes as the school joins the resurgent Pac-12 along with other Mountain West teams ahead of the 2026 football season.

The Rams lost the Arizona Bowl at the end of the 2024 season in their first bowl appearance since 2017. Norvell was hired to replace former Boston College coach Steve Addazio before the 2022 season after Addazio spent two seasons in Fort Collins.
