Report: Yankees sign Inf Nicky Lopez at the minor league agreement

The New York Yankees signed the veteran field player Nicky Lopez to a minor league agreement, reported Thursday.
The Yankees had previously designated the inner field player CJ Alexander for assignment, and the Los Angeles Dodgers asked him for derogations from New York earlier on Thursday.
The Yankees have had difficulties defensively in recent weeks, and Lopez, 30, could provide a regular glove. Lopez was a finalist of the American League Gold Glove Award last year at the second goal with the Chicago White Sox. He made 292 departures to the second goal, 265 at a stop and 49 to the third goal of his career in the major league.
However, Lopez beat 0.056 (1 for 18) for the Chicago Cubs in 14 games when they decided to designate it for assignment in May. He started the season with the Los Angeles Angels and played in four games, going 0 for 6 to marble.
Lopez is a career striker .245 on 686 MLB games with the Kansas City Royals (2019-23), Atlanta Braves (2023), White Sox, Angels and Cubs. His best season occurred in 2021, when he beat. 300 and recorded 21 doubles and 43 products produced in 151 games for Kansas City.
Alexander, 28, did not participate in a match for the Yankees. He played 10 major league games, including six for athletics earlier this season, and beat. 160 (4-in-25).
