Report: revision of the design of the Apple operating system operating system will also provide a new brand

WWDC is less than two weeks old, and it promises to be a big show. In addition to the interface updates of all its operating systems, Apple should also formalize the numbering of the version in all its dares for the first time.
According to a report by Mark Gurman, Apple will identify its operating systems per year instead of the version number, bringing them all to 26. Even if the press releases start 2025, Apple will appoint it after the following year, “a bit like the way automobile companies market their vehicles,” says Gurman. This means that several operating systems will go to new figures:
- iOS 18> iOS 26
- IPados 18> iPados 26
- MacOS 15> MacOS 26
- Watchos 10> Watchos 26
- TVOS 18> TVOS 26
- Visionos 2> Visionos 26
Apple operating systems are currently appointed according to their version numbers, which is why some are not aligned. However, iPados and Tvos are on version 18 despite not having 18 versions, while MacOS arbitrarily started in version 11 in 2020. This change will allow users much more easily to know which version they use.
As Gurman notes, Apple previously experienced the annual numbering for its applications, with Ilife ’04 and iWork ’05. However, this nomenclature finally sneered while Apple was starting to update the applications individually. It is not clear if Apple will use an apostrophe to indicate that it is a year and not a version number.
Apple will unveil its full updates on the slate of the operating system during its WWDC Keynote on June 9. Stay listening to Macworld for updates before, during and after the event.
