Report, result and goals as Guehi scores late winner

Catch all the action from Fulham’s clash against Crystal Palace in the Premier League…

Crystal Palace claimed a late 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage as Marc Guehi’s near-post header five minutes from time lifted Oliver Glasner’s side into the top four.

Palace started the match in control of possession, working with their midfield trio and looking to release Tyrick Mitchell and Yeremi Pino in wide areas.

Their pressure paid off in the 20th minute with a well-constructed opening goal. Adam Wharton initiated the move with a nice pass to the left and continued his run to combine with Marc Guehi at the edge of the area, sliding Edward Nketiah into space.

The striker took a crisp touch and swept a low strike beyond Bernd Leno to score on his 50th appearance at Palace.

Fulham’s response, however, was immediate. Emile Smith Rowe was denied by Dean Henderson after breaking into the box following a through ball from Sander Berge, but the equalizer arrived eight minutes later via a moment of individual quality.

Harry Wilson and Raul Jimenez combined with a deft one-two on the right side of the area, with Wilson outrunning his marker to collect the return and guide a smart finish off the outside of the boot into the far corner.

It was Wilson’s fourth league goal of the season and he brought Craven Cottage to life after a passive opening period.

Both teams exchanged half-chances before the break. Nathaniel Clyne missed a clear chance at the far post for Palace, while Alex Iwobi saw a volley bounce nicely for Henderson.

Fulham threatens, VAR frustration

Fulham started the second half brightly and thought they had taken the lead ten minutes after the restart.

A well-worked move ended with Smith Rowe slotting an open goal after Iwobi’s header hit the post, but VAR ruled Samuel Chukwueze was slightly offside in the build-up, interrupting the celebrations.

Palace then enjoyed a promising period. Pino created chances for Jean-Philippe Mateta and later for substitute Christantus Uche, each clearing shots from good positions.

Mitchell remained an energetic outlet on the left, repeatedly delivering dangerous deliveries in front of goal.

Guéhi slice

As the match drew to a close, both coaches turned toward their benches. The game looked set to drift into a draw, but Palace’s winner came from another pinpoint delivery from Pino.

The winger’s corner from the left found Guehi darting between two defenders at the near post, and the captain fired a header inside the upright to restore the visitors’ lead and give them all three points.
