Report, result and goals as Foden double saves blushes

Relive all the action from Man City’s dramatic Premier League win over Leeds…

Man City started late but ultimately battled back from three points in a chaotic match at the Etihad, overcoming a spirited Leeds fightback to win 3-2 with Phil Foden’s stoppage-time strike.

What started as a routine afternoon for the champions veered into difficult territory during a hectic second half, only for Foden’s composure deep into injury time to bring City back from the brink.

City could hardly have planned a stronger opening. With just 59 seconds played, Nunes burst down the right on a back-and-forth and positioned himself low into the area where Foden arrived to smash his finish under the bar for the quickest Premier League goal of the season.

Leeds, stuck back and struggling to breathe in the opening minutes, spent the early exchanges firefighting as wave after wave of sky-blue pressure came through.

The second goal was imminent, and it arrived midway through the half when a corner from the left wreaked havoc.

O’Reilly nodded into a crowded six-yard box and Josko Gvardiol slid in to force the ball over the line for 2-0.

A lengthy VAR check delayed the celebrations, but the decision stood and City looked set for a comfortable afternoon.

Perri made several important saves and Justin and Bogle threw themselves into blocks, keeping the score just about respectable at the break.

Second half

Leeds came out transformed after the break. Two half-time substitutions changed the tone and within four minutes they had a lifeline.

Tanaka played a neat pass to Dominic Calvert-Lewin and after a loose touch and a lucky ricochet, the striker slipped low into the corner to ignite the full-back.

The equalizer then arrived in dramatic fashion. Burned by the pace behind, Gvardiol brought down Calvert-Lewin in the box and Leeds were awarded a penalty. Donnarumma guessed correctly and pushed the effort away, but Lukas Nmecha reacted first to crash into the unguarded net.

Guardiola brought in reinforcements and possession increased once more, but Leeds held on as the game turned frenzied.

Doku crossed, Haaland battled with defenders and Leeds held on until stoppage time arrived with ten minutes added.

Marmoush headed straight at Perri, Gudmundsson forced a sharp save at the other end and the tension mounted with each attack.

Then, the moment. Rayan Cherki, introduced from the bench, slipped a simple ball inside and launched from the right.

Foden collected, created space and guided a clinical finish down the left. 3-2. A roar of relief echoed around the Etihad.
