It is unlikely that the quarter of Ole Miss Austin Simmons was playing against Tulane on Saturday due to an ankle injury, ESPN reported on Friday.

The rebels classified in the 13th (3-0) will turn to Trinidad Chambliss to make his second consecutive departure when the green wave (3-0) will visit Oxford, Miss.

Simmons could be available in an emergency role, as it was last weekend when it got out of the bench to launch a hit in the second quarter in a 41-35 victory against Arkansas.

The Mississippi coach, Lane Kiffin, was optimistic about the availability of Simmons earlier this week. “I foresee that Austin is good to play and be our starting quarter,” he said.

ESPN reported that Simmons had aggravated his ankle injury when she appeared as a rescue against the Razorbacks.

Simmons, a second year student, made 34 of the 56 passes for 580 yards with four affected and four interceptions in three games this season. He rushed 16 times for 69 yards and a score.

Chambliss, a senior transfer of Division II Ferris State, completed 21 of the 29 passes for 353 yards, a TD and no choice against Arkansas. He rushed 15 times for 62 yards and two scores.
