Matt Wallace reveals he ‘originally edited’ clip of man allegedly celebrating Charlie Kirk’s death and wants to ‘discuss’ it on Candace Owens’ show

Political commentator Matt Wallace recently made some statements regarding a clip of a man allegedly celebrating the death of Charlie Kirk that went viral last month. According to the New York Post, a bearded man was filmed celebrating in the crowd, moments after Kirk’s assassination.
On October 12, 2025, Candace Owens shared a video on X, formerly Twitter, and asked about the man. In response to his tweet, Matt Wallace, on Monday October 13, 2025, noted:
“Yes, I was the one who originally put this video together and he contacted me shortly after. Happy to send you anything I have, or come on the show and chat if you’d like!”
Meanwhile, Candace Owens reposted video from another X user, @JohnBasham, who reported that the man started “immediately partying” when the bullet was fired at the late American right-wing political activist.

“So it’s kind of crazy, but the man who cheered after Charlie was shot has actually never been fully identified. He’s known only as ‘David’. I’m trying to contact him because someone sent me other relevant images of him. Does anyone know?”
For those who don’t know, Charlie Kirk was fatally shot at the age of 31 on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The late activist, co-founder of the conservative student organization Turning Point USA, reportedly spoke to a huge crowd at a Utah Valley University event.
Mystery man who appeared to applaud after Charlie Kirk’s killing defends his action amid viral video

In an article published on September 12, 2025, the New York Post reports that the man claiming to be the person seen in the viral video goes by the name David on the social media platform X. After being filmed at the Utah Valley University event, the man reportedly released a two-minute statement and attempted to explain himself.
“When I heard a high-pitched crack, I initially thought it might have been fireworks or a prank disturbance…I looked up to the horizon looking for smoke. When none appeared, I realized it must have been a gun.”
Noting that he was with his friends at the event, the man recalled the incident and claimed he “believed Charlie was seriously injured.” He further defended his actions and added that he “checked” the security team’s movements before getting up.
“I stood up and shouted ‘USA,’ not as a provocation, but to project strength, encourage others and create a distraction that could help calm panic or even save lives,” the man explained.
Meanwhile, a 22-year-old man named Tyler Robinson was arrested for the murder of far-right activist Charlie Kirk. The shooter was taken into custody after a 33-hour manhunt that ended after his father allegedly helped persuade him to go to police.
His arrest was notably announced for the first time by US President Donald Trump, who reportedly called for the alleged shooter to be sentenced to the death penalty.
