The New York Knicks will take a pass when it comes to raising a banner to the rafters of Madison Square Garden following their NBA Cup title on Tuesday, ESPN reported.

The Knicks won the third NBA tournament of the season with a 124-113 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Las Vegas.

Although the team plans to celebrate the accomplishment with fans at an upcoming home game, it won’t be remembered in perpetuity inside its home arena.

The Los Angeles Lakers won the first tournament title of the season in 2023, while the Milwaukee Bucks won the event last season. Both teams decided to hang banners to commemorate this achievement.

New York (18-7) is tied for the fourth-best record in the NBA heading into Wednesday’s game, while also being the second-best team in the Eastern Conference, 2 1/2 games behind the Detroit Pistons.

The Knicks last won an NBA championship in 1973, while finishing second twice since then, in 1994 and 1999. After missing the playoffs for seven straight seasons from 2014 to 2020, they reached the playoffs in four of the last five seasons, including a berth in the Eastern Conference finals last season.
