That said, an exclusive ScreenRant interview with Last Samurai StandingMichihito Fuji of , director and writer of the series, saw season 2 briefly referenced.

Fuji was asked about his overall experience working on Last Samurai Standing. He described the positive experience of it all before stating: “IIf you can watch all the episodes, you will see that the story continues. And we hope to continue.” This is the only solid reference to a sequel to the series that has been provided thus far.

As for the release date, that’s also just conjecture at this point. Last Samurai Standing began filming in mid-2024, for release in November 2025. Therefore, if Last Samurai Standing season 2 is confirmed around the same time in 2026, we can expect a release date in late 2027.

Despite Fuji’s obvious intention to continue Last Samurai Standing season 2, Netflix has not yet renewed the series. This is likely due to the show’s release on the streaming service on November 13, meaning viewing figures and overall audience reaction are difficult to gauge at this point.

As is the case with most modern streaming shows, Netflix will wait to see how its subscribers react. Last Samurai Standing before committing to a second season. Without official renewal for Last Samurai Standing season 2 being provided for the moment, there is no confirmed casting either. That said, the end of Last Samurai Standing season 1 and the plot threads it left dangling for a sequel make it easy to guess which actors will return.

Of course, the main protagonist of the series, Junichi Okada, would return as Shujiro Saga. Yumia Fujisaka would also return as Futaba Katsuki for Last Samurai Standing season 2, as did Kaya Kiyohara as Iroha Kinugasa. Masahiro Higashide would round out the main cast as Kyojin Tsuge.

Shota Sometani as Kocha Kamuy, a competing archer in Kodoku, would likely return for a second season. The same would be true for Taichi Saotome, Taiiku Okazaki and Yuya Endo, who play Shujiro’s siblings Shikura Adashino, Jinroku Keage and Sansuke Gion respectively. Kairi Jo would also reprise his role as Shinjiro Sayama, a young Kodoku competitor allied with Kyojin.

The series’ villains will be rounded out by Gaku Hamada as Toshiyoshi Kawaji, general superintendent of police and organizer of Kodoku, and Hiroshi Abe as Gentosai Okabe, the elderly samurai tracking down Shujiro and his siblings. If Last Samurai Standing season 2 follows the storylines set up at the end of season 1, these are the actors most likely to return.

Last Samurai Standing Season 2 Story Details

Once again, concrete details on Last Samurai Standing Season 2 hasn’t been revealed, but it’s anyone’s guess where the series would go if it were renewed. Last Samurai Standing season 1 ended with Shujiro and Futaba in Okazaki, intending to meet the former’s government ally.

However, the death of the Minister of the Interior has changed plans, meaning Shujiro and Futaba are heading back to Tokyo. Meanwhile, Iroha and her siblings vowed to kill Gentosai in order to free themselves from his relentless hunt. It was revealed that Kyojin was working with Gentosai, even conspiring to send the latter to kill Iroha, Shujiro, and their siblings.

Last Samurai Standing season 2 will undoubtedly delve more into Kyojin’s true motivations and loyalties, as Kawaji increases the scope of Kodoku and his coup within the Japanese government. Last Samurai Standing season 1 set all of this up, meaning it stands to reason that a second season would further explore these dynamics and rivalries.
