Reign vs Angel City FC: Gamethread

After a long road trip and a break in the league in July, Seattle Reign is finally back in Lumen Field for an NWSL match for the first time in more than two months, welcoming FC Angel City on Friday evening to start the second half of the season.
Angel City recently appointed Alexander Straus as head coach after the former Reign Sam Main assistant led the club on a provisional basis for the first half. Straus comes to the club after two years at Bayern Munich, where he won consecutive titles from Frauen Bundesliga. In his first three championship games in charge of Angel City, he has a draw and two defeats.
Earlier this season, the reign fell to Angel City on the road, 2-1; Alyssa Thompson and Riley Tiernan scored for the hosts while Ji So-Yun obtained the goal of Seattle from the penalty point. Seattle has a great advantage in the series of all time with an 8-1-3 record, which includes a home record 4-1-1 and 21 goals scored against 12 conceded.
During the league break, NWSL clubs played friendly matches. Seattle beat the Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds, 2-1, and had a goalless draw with Portland Thorns, winning the shooting shooting. Angel City played with a 1-1 draw with the Bay FC and beat Carolina Ascent from the USL Super League, 4-2.
Match overview: Seattle Reign vs Angel City
The reign is finally back in Lumen Field Friday evening.
Game keys
- Revive June’s attack spark
- The adjustment parts change the games
- Contain Alyssa Thompson
- The reign made no injury during the break, although they were not healthier either, with the goalkeeper of the Secours Cassie Miller and the defender read Barnes still with leg injury. The rear Ryanne Brown has not yet been activated from the SEI list as it continues to recover from a tear of the ACL last summer – head coach Laura Harvey said that she had a minor setback with a separate injury, but is still on the right track to come back at one point this season.
- The new signature of Mia Fishel is likely to make its debut at the NWSL. She played half an hour in Seattle’s friendly match against Urawa two weeks ago against Portland last weekend as she built fitness and joined her new teammates.
- The trio of Seattle players who participated in the euros (Ana-Maria Crnogorčević, Jess Fishlock and Angharad James-Turner) only recently joined the club after a post-tournoi recovery break; Their availability for the game should be limited.
- This game marks the annual match of the pride of the reign, with a gift of pride fans at the first 5,000 people present. Although the pride match takes place normally in June, the stadium planning conflicts meant that the club was on the road throughout the month followed by a break in the League game in July.
- The navies have a home match at 7:10 p.m., followed by a fireworks show, so anticipate a lot of additional traffic and parking challenges in Pioneer Square and Sodo.
