Agent of £27m West Ham star makes big admission about his future at club

Niclas Fullkrug’s agent has admitted signing for West Ham didn’t work out for the client.

West Ham signed Fullkrug for £27 million last summer from Borussia Dortmund, after a brilliant season at Borussia Dortmund and Euro 2024.

However, he failed to live up to his expectations at the Hammers, with injuries playing a significant role in his struggles.

Thorsten Wirth, Fullkrug’s agent, said in a recent podcast interview that the German’s move had not worked and suggested a move away from the London Stadium may be necessary.

He told TOmorrow Business Podcast (via talkSPORT): “Looking back, we have to say the transfer didn’t work. There’s no point sugarcoating it.”

“It (leaving West Ham) always has to be done in cooperation with the club, but I think it can make sense to change something there.”

His agent pointed to recurring injury issues as the main reason for the failed transition.

“Time and time again, just when you were thinking: now he’s coming, now he’s going to show England that it wasn’t just a good Euro and then nothing after that, another injury happened,” Wirth explained.

“He had a bit of negative dynamics and also some bad luck.”

Niclas Fullkrug’s stay at West Ham marred by injuries

Since his high-profile arrival, the 32-year-old striker has missed 32 games due to injuries in all competitions.

In the 27 games he has been fit, he has only managed to score three goals and assist two others.

The German was criticized for his performances, with former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor saying he was not good enough to play for West Ham.

What’s next for Fullkrug?

With the player’s agent more or less confirming that the striker will soon end his London nightmare, it is interesting to see which club will take him over West Ham.

There were shocking reports this summer that Real Madrid were interested in signing the former Werder Bremen star.

The most likely destination will be a return to Germany where there could be plenty of suitors who would be happy to take on the experienced Bundesliga striker.
