A pair of teams fighting for a place in the playoffs at the conference of the eastern conference on Saturday evening while the Chicago Fire will face the New York Red Bulls.
The Red Bulls (9-9-6, 33 points) and the fire (9-9-5, 32 points) are respectively ninth and 10th in the eastern classification. The fire, however, has a match in hand.
Chicago won a 2-0 victory against CF Montreal on July 19 behind the goals of Hugo Cuypers and Jack Elliott. Philip Zinckergntel, a selection of MLS All-Star games, added a decisive pass.
The fire showed a marked improvement under Gregg Berhalter in its first season as a chief coach and technical director. The next step, however, is Chicago who qualifies for his first appearance in the playoffs since 2017, which includes the profit of the transfer window which opened its doors on Thursday.
“It’s a work in progress,” said Berhalter. “We have declared openly that we want to add players to the team and advance the team and progress. There are a certain number of targets to whom we have spoken, and now it is a question of really refining some of them, then continuing the agreement.”
The back of the Carlos Teran fire center, since mid-April with a higher leg injury, has returned to training and is “daily”, according to Berhalter.
New York played for the last time on July 19 against Inter Miami CF, obtaining an opening match for Alexander’s piracy in the 14th minute before granting the following five goals – two to Lionel Messi – in a 5-1 defeat.
The Red Bulls will seek to bounce back after a heavy defeat during his last outing, a victory bringing them an unprecedented appearance in the 16th eliminatory series.
“We have to play with high intensity. We have to play with the right mentality. These are two great things that we need to improve,” said Hack. “We must be ready from the first minute until the 95th minute, playing as a team, supporting each other, (and) fight for each other.”
The Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that they have signed the Swedish midfielder Gustav Berggren by Raków Czestochowa in the first division of Poland.
