“Lately, I try to stay in the present moment, even though it’s impossible to escape thinking about the future,” she noted. “I worry so much about my daughters losing their father. They are going through this with all the pressures that are put on young girls, and I want to do everything in my power to give them the tools they will need. They will be different because of this. I know that.”
Although Rebecca and Eric, 53, split in 2017, they remained a steadfast unit throughout this difficult time, whether it was advocating for their health insurance to make sure he had nurses to help care for him at home or taking on call duty herself.
But as she’s been “one foot in front of the other” to make sure her family gets the support they need, Rebecca knows that once she takes a moment to process everything they’ve been through, it “will be beyond heartbreaking.”
“I’m really trying to help my kids, Eric, myself and all of us get through this knowing that death is part of the cycle of life,” she explained. “And in this case we are very unlucky in many ways. But we are also fortunate in knowing that time is the most precious thing and that we can use it wisely.”
