“Arsenal did a very good job by persuading it to stay. Real Madrid will keep an eye on him, but they were never going to take a step in January.
“In the end, it was always in Saliba – as we saw with a lot of these offers. If he had refused the contract, then I think it would have been more relevant to Madrid to come in summer.
“But Saliba has made its decision, and it will have massive ramifications. Arsenal hopes that it will also have a training effect with some of their other great players.”
