Real Madrid faces a serious injury problem and its defender is expelled from the Spanish team as the Clasico approaches.

Real Madrid will look forward to discovering the extent of Dean Huijsen’s injury which forced him to leave the Spanish selection.

Huijsen was replaced this morning in the group which will face Georgia and Bulgaria next week due to an unrecognized muscle problem.

Aymeric Laporte, now back at Athletic Bilbao after leaving Al-Nassr last month, will replace him. The 31 -year -old has not played for Spain since his appearance in the League of Nations in November 2024.

A Spanish press release said: “Dean Huijsen is injured and withdrew from the national team to play the qualification matches for the 2026 World Cup against Georgia in Elche and Bulgaria in Valladolid.

“The defender of Real Madrid arrived on Monday evening with symptoms of muscle fatigue. On Tuesday, he did not train and his club was informed that the evolution was not positive, and Wednesday morning, he underwent a medical examination which confirms a muscle injury of which Real Madrid has already been informed. We wish him a speedy recovery.

“Aymeric Laporte will join the team as a replacement.”

Madrid hopes that Huijsen will restore himself soon

This is a concern for Madrid with a number of important games on the horizon after the international break.

They resumed national competition with a trip to Getafe on October 19 before a shock from the Champions League against Juventus at Santiago Bernabéu three days later. The following weekend, Madrid will welcome Barcelona during the first Clasico of the season.

Huijsen has been extremely impressive since he joined Madrid from Bournemouth this summer. He played seven of his eight Liga matches and is undoubtedly the first choice in central defense.
