Thanks to his elite fitness, the 36-year-old is at the peak of his powers and has been firing with both bat and ball in Test cricket. He has made incredible improvements in his batting and has been one of the best Indian batters in Test cricket over the past few years.

Not only with the bat, Jadeja has also been sensational with the ball for India, and in the ongoing series against West Indies at home, he has once again brought out his beast mode.

He won the Player of the Series award in the first match of India’s Test series against the West Indies for his all-round exploits, and on the same day, Ajit Agarkar snubbed him from the ODI squad for the tour of Australia.

The senior all-rounder did not get a place in the ODI squad as the selectors decided to go with Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav as three spin-bowling options. Jadeja’s snub surprised many as he was part of India’s last ODI mission – ICC Champions Trophy 2025 – and played a vital role in the victory.

“I want to play the 2027 World Cup” – Ravindra Jadeja

Speaking to reporters after the second day’s match against West Indies in Delhi, Jadeja openly expressed his desire to play in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

He also spoke about his ODI snub and revealed that the selection committee and captain tried to explain the reason to him, which he did not understand.

“I obviously want to play the 2027 World Cup. It is still a selection decision. The good thing is that the selectors and the captain have spoken to me and explained and I don’t understand the reasons. Everyone’s dream is to win the ODI World Cup,” Ravindra Jadeja was quoted as saying by Vimal Kumar.

Notably, when Ajit Agarkar was asked the reason for Ravindra Jadeja’s omission, he replied that they could only take one left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder for the Australia tour; hence, Axar Patel got the nod ahead of Jadeja. However, he clarified that Jadeja was still in the scheme of things.

Ravindra Jadeja exercises his skills

During the same media interaction, Jadeja decided to put his exceptional all-round skills to good use, saying he was becoming a hitter on batter-friendly surfaces and a bowler on spin-friendly pitches.

“I am becoming a hitter on batting wickets and a bowler on bowling wickets,” the champion all-rounder said.

While talking about the track at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi not offering many turns, he said:

“I’m not surprised. We asked for a slow turn. We didn’t ask for row turners.”

The senior all-rounder further lavished rich praise on the captain, Shubman Gill, as well as the extremely talented opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. He said:

“As captain, Shubhman Gill has been doing well since the England series. The younger generation is taking more responsibility. People like Yashasvi Jaiswal are not leaving it to others to finish the job.”
