Ravichandran Ashwin’s IPL retirement blocked by Chennai legend

Ravichandran Ashwin’s sudden decision to withdraw from the Indian Premier League (IPL) at 38 has left a lot of amazement, having retired from international cricket last year. Meanwhile, the former Indian chief selector Kris Srikkanth expressed his surprise against Ashwin’s retirement. He believes that the former Indian holder could have played in IPL for at least two more years, especially given his physical form and his rich experience.

Reacting on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said: “I don’t know why Ashwin retired. If I were in his place, I would have continued to play IPL for at least two years. Of course, for Ashwin, money, fame or name is not a problem.

However, Ravichandran Ashwin has openly declared that it was now impatient to explore the world T20 leagues. But Srikkanth warned that no league in the world could match the visibility, fame and prestige of IPL.

He also praised Ashwin’s unforgettable contribution in the first two IPL triumphs of Chennai Super Kings in 2010 and 2011, as well as their T20 triumphs in the Champions League in 2010 and 2014.

Srikkanth said: “Ashwin was one of the best IPL crickets that India has produced. His name for glory was made via IPL and CSK, especially when he continued to reject Chris Gayle for fun.”
