Newcastle prepare new transfer plans for January

Newcastle have had a disappointing season so far, but there is plenty of time for things to turn around for Eddie Howe’s side. Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Man City would have boosted morale, and those among the supporters could be higher when the January transfer window arrives.

So far, the majority of Newcastle’s summer signings have yet to convince, but as they continue to settle in, they could soon be joined by some new faces.

According to Football Insider, Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Newcastle are interested in signing in January, with several positions identified as areas to address.

“I think obviously at Newcastle there’s been a lot of talk about their squad and is it strong enough? Perhaps Eddie Howe’s biggest concern is the lack of cover, particularly at the back where they’ve had injuries to the likes of Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento. So maybe cover at left back and right back with Kieran Trippier not getting any younger either. That might be something Newcastle could look at.

“Who is the best midfielder for Eddie Howe? If any of those players are injured, it’s certainly a drop in their midfield as well, so Howe would be looking to add to his options there. I also think obviously there’s been a lot of talk about the strikers with the whole situation with Alexander Isak leaving so late in the window. They’re still waiting for Yoane Wissa to be fully fit, and I think that will be a priority for him to either in top form, but if a player were to leave, then maybe.

“I would expect Newcastle to have money to spend in January and be able to be active during the window if they need to add to their squad.”

Signings could help Newcastle return to top of Premier League

Newcastle are known for starting slowly, so they are expected to improve as the season goes on – and with possible new signings on the way, this could be another very strong campaign for Howe and his team.
