Queen Latifah talks biopic and The Equalizer

Queen Latifah entered Deadline’s studio at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and gave Deadline some insight into the upcoming project about her life and Robyn McCall’s role in The equalizer.
Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit Entertainment is producing the biopic, which will be one of several biopics focusing on hip-hop’s most iconic stars. “We partnered to work with Westbrook [Studios] and Jesse Collins Entertainment…we thought we would create them. I will be one of the first to do so. Will [Smith] will do his too, and he is also an integral part of my story.
The big question for Queen Latifah was: who will play her? “It’s going to be a big cast,” she said. “I’ve been doing this since I was 17, but there’s been some preparation, so someone has to be able to play these different parts of it.”
As a young hip-hop star, it took her time to learn how to handle her newfound fame, she said. “I was like, I can’t live up to this, this ‘Queen Latifah,’ she’s a business, she’s way bigger than me. I had to deal with it.” Work is underway on the biopic. “We’re writing…it’ll take a minute.”
The star also told us that she was decompressing after The equalizerthe CBS series she starred in and produced, which recently ended after five seasons.
Queen Latifah played Robyn McCall and hasn’t ruled out fans seeing her character again. “When it comes to The equalizer universe, everything is possible. I put a lot of who I am into Robyn McCall, so it’s definitely possible to see more iterations of who she is, different versions, maybe.
