Consumer complaints about plastic in products prompt sandwich recall

EA Sween Company of Eden Prairie, Minn., is recalling 127,887 pounds of pulled pork sandwiches that may be contaminated with pieces of plastic, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The problem was discovered after the company received several complaints from consumers finding pieces of plastic in the product. EA Sween Company determined that the plastic came from the one-gallon plastic barbecue bottles used in production.
The barbecue pulled pork sandwiches were produced on various dates between January 13th and October 15th. The following product is subject to recall:
- 5.5 ounces. “Deli EXPRESS BBQ PULLED PORK on a sesame bun” sandwiches wrapped in paper.
The recalled product has the establishment number “EST. 2451” inside the USDA inspection mark. These items were shipped to retail locations across the country, including the Department of Defense.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury due to consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about an injury should contact a healthcare professional.
FSIS is concerned that some products may be found in consumers’ refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are asked not to consume them.
These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
