While the world leaders summoned to the United Nations in New York on Monday to launch the general assembly of this year on Monday, they were presented with a world first of a new short film featuring Prince Harry, Charlize Theron, Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Aino Mbedu.
The high -level stars appear in the short film with two HIV +activists, which all offered their time and their words to rally support for HIV / AIDS in the midst of global discounts with a clear and hopeful message – to end the aid as a public health threat by 2030. It was made possible thanks to the talents of the writer, producer and colleague nominated at the Oscars, Ron Nyswaner, who produced the short film. The Duke of Sussex defended global AIDS initiatives in places like Botswana and Lesotho, including a HIV public test to help break stigma and encourage people to know their status. Theron, Johnson and Mbedu have all been so to the knees in work. Theron and Johnson joined the effort at a personal level and thanks to their foundations, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) and the Magic Johnson Foundation, respectively.
“The end of AIDS is not a distant dream – it is within our reach, built on decades of implacable activism, advocacy and shared engagement,” proposed Theron. “From revolutionary treatments to global solidarity, we have built a path to epidemic control. And now, as world leaders meet in the United Nations General Assembly, we have the power to finish what we have started. The time to end the aid is now and we must have the courage to see it. ”
MBEDU, originally from South Africa, has already worked with UNUSIDS, as encouraging world leaders to adopt human rights in the world’s world response and to work with the Elton John Aids Foundation. “The end of aid requires collective action and support for humanity to ensure that no one who needs vital antiretroviral treatment in Uganda or Mozambique is left behind,” she said. “World leaders must continue to invest in the global HIV response to save lives.”
The activists presented in the short film include Fabian Quezada, an activist and hairdresser of celebrities of original Mexico, and Andiswa Cindi, a 22-year-old South African influencer who uses Tiktok to raise awareness of HIV.
