Previous presence alert: strong storms and heavy rains during the night and early Saturday

Strong storms and heavy rains during the night and early Saturday

The Minnesota Meteorological Authority published a first alert scheduled for the night and early Saturday. Strong storms should develop with the high wind potential and a sudden localized flood.

Friday was already a warm and humid day with summits in the upper 80s. This led to an unstable plane that has already produced thunderstorms in certain parts of the metro earlier this afternoon. Over the evening, some additional thunderstorms cannot be excluded, and some could be strong, but a large part of the evening will remain dry for the most part. If you have plans outdoors, take a look at the radar beforehand.

The widespread thunderstorms will develop overnight and early Saturday morning. These thunderstorms could also produce a strong wind and hail, but the main concern will be strong precipitation and the potential of sudden floods. The floors have already been saturated in the region with precipitation in recent weeks, it will therefore not take much for the water levels to increase. Tonight would be a good night to check your sump pump in the basement, because several cycles of storms are expected throughout the weekend.

Stay listening to the Minnesota meteorological authority throughout the weekend while these thunderstorms move.
