President Trump’s granddaughter gets exemption for LPGA event

BELLEAIR, Fla. — President Donald Trump’s granddaughter will take a detour to play college golf at the University of Miami; Kai Trump will make her LPGA Tour debut next month.

Kai Trump received a sponsor exemption on Tuesday to play The Annika at Pelican Golf Club, November 13-16. This penultimate event on the LPGA calendar typically features one of the strongest fields of the year outside of the majors.

“My dream was to compete with the best in the world on the LPGA Tour,” Trump said in a statement. “This event will be an incredible experience. I can’t wait [to] meeting and competing with many of my golfing heroes and mentors as I make my LPGA Tour debut. »

Trump, the eldest child of Donald Trump Jr., is a high school senior at Benjamin School in Palm Beach County who has committed to play for the Miami Hurricanes next year. She competes in amateur events nationally with the American Junior Golf Association and locally in Florida.

She currently sits 461st in the AJGA Girls Rankings, having competed in three events this year.

Trump has more than 6 million total followers across four social media platforms and recently launched a clothing and lifestyle brand aimed at empowering young women in sports.

“Sponsor invitations are an important way to spotlight emerging talent and bring new attention to our tournaments and the LPGA,” said Ricki Lasky, LPGA Director of Tour Business and Operations. “Kai’s large audience and reach helps introduce golf to new audiences, particularly among younger fans. We’re excited to see her take this next step in her journey.”

The Annika has already announced that WNBA star Caitlin Clark will return to play in the pro-am for the second year in a row; the pro-am will take place on November 12.

Nelly Korda is the defending champion.
