The former Cincinnati municipal councilor, PG Sittenfeld, who was found guilty of federal corruption and extortion, was forgiven by President Donald Trump, according to a CNN report.
The case against Sittenfeld focused on donations to its political action committee, who, the prosecutors said that he had requested an informant for FBI and FBI agents posing as developers of a Cincinnati city center project. The prosecutors said that Sittenfeld’s actions were going beyond the collection of campaign funds and crossed the line in corruption.
A jury found him guilty in 2022. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Campaign contributions are generally protected by the first amendment, but the question is when it crosses a line and becomes corruption. Sittenfeld has always said that what he had done was an ordinary policy.
Sittenfeld brought his case to the Supreme Court of the United States in order to overthrow its conviction.
