Premier League leaders held off at half-time by spirited fighters

Premier League leaders Arsenal were held to a first-half draw against bottom side Wolves in the Emirates.

The Gunners have never lost to a team who started the game bottom of the top flight. However, they showed few signs of defeat against a dynamic and defensively disciplined Wolves team.

In fact, despite sitting deep and absorbing the pressure, it was the Midlanders who had the best chance of the half when Hee-chan Hwang escaped, but his effort was comfortably saved by David Raya.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta showed increasing frustration on the touchline; his team is incapable of producing the same ruthlessness that allowed them to take a two-point lead at the top of the table.

Gabriel Martinelli missed the target twice from close range, while the returning Jurrien Timber earlier saw a header go narrowly over Bukayo Saka’s cross.

If the score remains level, it would open the door for Manchester City to level on points with Arteta’s men if they beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.
