Prasidh Krishna was not sold on the tactics of Shubman Gill on his beginnings as a test captain in India

Despite two missing test games, Prasidh Krishna found himself as the fourth joint flashed (14) in the India VS England series.

Prasidh Krishna was the highest wicket-taker of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In his debut season for the Gujarat Titans (GT), the tall fast bowler was expected. He, along with captain Shubman Gill and head coach Ashish Nehra, had cracked the code. But less than a month later, Prasidh didn’t agree with Gill’s plan.

Disagreement over plans

The 29-year-old has always been a hit-the-deck bowler. But short ball didn’t come naturally to him. Back of the length is where Prasidh has always operated. So, when in Headingley on his India Test captaincy debut, Gill told him to bowl short balls; Prasidh didn’t entirely agree.

But that’s what the team wanted from him. Prasidh states that it was the first time he had to do something that he wasn’t convinced about. He was wayward throughout the first Test, picked 5 wickets, but also went for runs.

“It is very important for both of us [Shubman Gill and him] To understand me – so that I know what the team really wants, why I am here and what they want from me. It is just as important that the team understands what is the best that Prasidh can give in a given situation.

We started to know that there would be cases where I should do the work that the team wanted – and I took it. It was actually a first experience for me, where the team wanted me to do something that I was not fully convinced, “ He told Espncricinfo.

Best communication and realization

But the reason for his selection was the agreement. Before the test, Prasidh had agreed tactics and plans. It was not only Gill who decided only; All coaches and management staff were for this. Prasidh realized.

It was his work to do what was perceived as the best for Team India. He struggled to initially but was entirely aboard the second test. He said he had chatted with Gill and head coach Gautam Gambir naturally of what was going well and where they can bring out the change.

It took a while because it was Gill’s first time, because the Indian test captain and Prasidh also played in England for the first time, but in the end, everything worked while India leveled the series to 2-2 in the oval.

“But you then have 20 people sitting outside who have a plan. We talked about it, and we agree. It therefore becomes your duty to come and do the work for the team. I was more than happy to do it, because that’s why you play a team sport. If you only wanted to do what you wanted, you play something else, just by yourself.

It was also a very good learning experience for me, especially in terms of communication. It improved after or during the second test, when I went up and I said, “Okay, that’s the plan, but perhaps we could have done something differently”. The conversations were very open, the communication was very good, even if it was a first experience for me. I think we took time but that we have learned very well on top of each other, “ Prasidh added.
