What costs it to reach the open host site

“We are members of Oakmont, but we do not belong.”
The same goes for a joke among a small group of guys in a good mood that has long been up to lockers at the Oakmont Country Club, host of the US Open 2025.
Faithful to the spirit of the steel mill in the Pittsburgh region, they are men of humiliations who have undergone substantial career success but retain an air class to them. They still pinched sometimes by a joyful disbelief that the powers in Oakmont allowed them in the club. Their cheeky line on the fact of not really belonging is another way of saying “we are in blue collar, not with blue blood.”
I’m kidding, however, Oakmont is not a starchy place. The story deeply crosses its land and pours out of every corner of the clubhouse. However, compared to what permeates in many private clubs of several centuries of high pedigree, the atmosphere of Oakmont is relaxed. This does not give you the impression of being on tiptoe on the egg shells.
Remove your hat, enter your shirt and respect the basic label, and you are necessarily welcomed and treated warmly.
Do not expect to wonder to join.
To do this, you need to know the right people, or enjoy a certain status in golf circles. And if you are invited, you will need an additional scratch.
How much, exactly? Funny you should ask.
In the past few days, Golf.com has given enough discreet information on membership costs in Oakmont to reach reliable figures. They read as follows.
The initiation contributions in Oakmont are in the $ 150,000 district, with monthly costs of around $ 1,250 and a minimum of food and $ 2,000 per year.
It is for basic membership. But in Oakmont, there are other levels of belonging. Of the 835 club members (give or take), 400 are regular members. There is also a national membership, which pays $ 25,000 in initiation contributions, and is capped at 75; Members of the spouse, who pay the same initiation as national members; Junior members, who are required to start compensating for their initiation contributions at the age of 25; And social members, which have limited golf privileges.
And that’s not all.
Each winner of the previous nine United States opened in Oakmont – Tommy Armor, Sam Parks Jr., Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller, Larry Nelson, Ernie Els, Angel Cabrera and Dustin Johnson – received an honorary member. Come on Sunday evening or Monday afternoon, if there are qualifying series, another golfer will be added to their ranks. This newly struck champion will join the club, and it will belong.
