According to police, police working in the city center observed a vehicle recklessly leading shortly before 1:30. While speaking with the driver, an officer observed a pistol on the floor on the driver’s side. The four occupants were ordered outside the vehicle under the threat of a firearm.
The driver was then identified as Crawford, and he was ticked for reckless driving. A passenger, a member of the Crawford security team, was also proven to carry a weapon to legal fire. The police have confirmed that all the occupants of the vehicle are legally authorized to carry firearms. A police supervisor and lieutenant responded to the scene at the request of Crawford.
“I thought we were preparing to lose your life … It was a nightmare, you know, the future husband, I had just had a brand new child and children and things like that,” Wowt Nbc Omaha Qasim Shabazz, head of the security team of Terence Crawford, told Wowt Nbc Omaha.
Crawford is a hero in Omaha and still lives in his hometown, where he raised his children and directs a non -profit boxing academy to help children at risk.
Ewing said in an article on Facebook that he spoke in Crawford after learning the traffic stop.
“I recognize the severity of what happened and how confidence between the application of laws and our community is important and shows the need to be continuously vigilant about the establishment of relations,” said Ewing. “Omaha’s police chief Todd Schmaderer has promised an internal investigation, which I support and want to be full and meticulous. We will bring together all the facts and be transparent with the public on our conclusions. ”
Crawford has become the unified average weight champion with his unanimous victory over Álvarez in Las Vegas. He became the first male boxer to capture three unified division titles. Crawford has a 42-0 sheet with 31 Knockouts.
The city organized a parade through the city center in honor of Crawford during the day, and a party to celebrate its 38th anniversary took place in a place of live music near the place where the stop of traffic occurred.
