Peter Wyles, the former head of program at Future Studios, has created the UK’s newest production house.
Nuntius Studios was created alongside Blink Films, the British documentary producer Hitler’s DNA: the blueprint for a dictatorwas broadcast on Channel 4 this month.
Wyles will be founder and creative director of Nuntius, which will focus on the genres of history, science, true crime and factual entertainment for broadcasters, streamers and digital platforms. Blink, part of Tin Roof Media, will provide back-office support and collaborate on co-production opportunities and other connections between the companies.
Wyles is known for a nine-year stint at Future Studios, originally known as Barcroft Studios. There he created and produced shows such as Real-time crime for ID and HBO Max), Danny Koker’s Ultimate Rides for history, The day the dinosaurs died for the BBC and PBS, Attack on Pearl Harbor: minute by minute for Channel 5, Nat Geo and Netflix, Missing: The Lucie Blackman Mystery for Prime Video and AIncredible interiors for Netflix. Blink, meanwhile, is one of the UK’s most established producers. Led by Dan Chambers and Justine Kershaw, it has recently produced shows such as Hitler’s DNA, Terror on the Space Station, Pile Up: the largest crash test in the world, The Wimbledon Killer, Diddy: Making of a Bad Boy And Wham: Last Christmas Unwrappedwhich was intended for the BBC and Netflix last year.
“Peter Wyles is one of the most talented executive producers in the unscripted world and we are all very excited to partner with him on Nuntius,” Blink co-founders and creative directors Chambers and Kershaw said in a statement. “We see many synergies between the two companies and have identified opportunities that both companies can benefit from through this new relationship.”
“We created Nuntius to provide popular, entertaining, high-quality unscripted content to broadcasters and streamers in a rapidly changing media landscape,” Wyles said. “Dan and Justine have an incredible track record of producing long-running hits and high-profile factual specials, often with multiple international co-production partners. I’m excited to join forces with them and everyone at Blink to help realize my vision for Nuntius.”
The UK manufacturing sector has seen significant contraction in recent years, particularly for small and medium-sized independents. However, there have been some green shoots and the ambition of independent producers is growing. Last week, Zig Zag Productions launched a special purpose vehicle (SPV) for film, television and sports alongside Seventy7Ventures.
