The Department of Education will promote “patriotic” civic education: NPR

The United States Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday a partnership with more than 40 conservative organizations aimed at creating programs around civic aimed at celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
This coalition “will take daring measures to educate, inspire and mobilize young people towards active and enlightened citizenship,” said Linda McMahon, American education secretary, in a press release.
Called the America 250 Civics Education CoalitionThe project will be supervised by the Department of Education and led by America First Policy Institute (AFPI), a non -profit conservative group. It includes Turning Point USA, Heritage Foundation, Hillsdale College and other state and national organizations.
The press release from the Department of Education said that the initiative “devotes itself to renewing patriotism, strengthening civic knowledge and advancing a shared understanding of the founding principles of America in the country’s schools”.
The department did not provide details on the types of educational equipment or programs to create, saying that the coalition had held its first meeting on Wednesday and would deploy “a robust programming program” in the next 12 months. Included in this programming, the press release would be a tour of 50 states on university campuses and a series of university speakers on fundamental freedoms.
Erika Donalds, co -chair of the coalition and president of education at the AFPI, said in the announcement that: “Thanks to this coalition, we unite to bring these lessons back to classrooms and communities and prepare future generations to protect our Republic.”
The announcement comes as the Trump administration dismantles the Department of Education in order to “Return education in the United States.“”
The federal government is law “Any direction, supervision or control on the program” in schools.
The officials of the Department of Education did not make the request for comments on Wednesday evening.
The department has also announced that it would start a program to award subsidies “to promote civic education that teaches American history, values and geography with an impartial approach”.
