PEACEMAKER’s Season 2 finale included a surprise appearance… from James Gunn himself
Last week’s season 2 finale Peacemaker proved highly controversial, even among those who had enjoyed the show up to that point. Although it set up some intriguing plot points for the DCU going forward, the primarily character-driven “Full Nelson” was light on major reveals or set-pieces.
James Gunn probably didn’t help matters by hyping up the “crazy” final episodes of the season, although you can’t blame him too much for fans’ disappointment with the finale’s lack of cameos. The DC Studios co-CEO teased a “very, very big” surprise appearance, and sure enough, Superman star Nicholas Hoult appeared in episode 6.
Despite this, many expected another appearance (David Corenswet’s Man of Steel was the leading theory) in the final episode. It now appears that “Full Nelson” actually featured a surprise appearance that seems to have escaped the majority of viewers.
Gunn himself can be seen in the background of one of the final scenes, enjoying Nelson’s concert with Chris Smith, Emilia Harcourt and the rest of the 11th Street Kids.
While this is sure to infuriate those who think Gunn tends to claim too much attention when promoting his projects (even if that brief background appearance counts), we’re sure others will at least see the funny side.
