Peacemaker Season 2 is still a series of James Gunn’s Suicide Squad

This article contains spoilers Until season 2, episode 4 of “Peacemaker”, “Need I Say Door”.
The concept of a series of multi -franchise films in progress – which we have come to call a “cinematographic universe” – is still relatively to its stammerings. Despite the existence of the decade and the change of things like the Marvel cinematic universe and the combined universe, there is still a lot of experimentation and room for maneuver on the way in which each property chooses to manage its growing continuity. The longest franchises, such as James Bond films, “Halloween” and others films, tended to choose a moment to break continuity with the past, presenting certain new payments as starting points, whether by means of a remake or a restart. This can be the fastest and clearest way to start fresh, but this movement releases the story, it means that part of the thematic and emotional resonance that a property wins over time could be lost.
The DC universe of James Gunn and Peter Safran, born from the ashes of the extended universe of DC, is a fascinating case of a continuous universe preventing a new path with regard to continuity. While most of us initially supposed that Gunn’s “Superman” (and the “creature commandos” before he would mark the breakdown of the deceased DCEU, the second season of “Peacemaker” has proven these erroneous hypotheses. As the season shows until now, he has the impression that Gunn adopts a parallel universe approach to merge the DCU and the DCU. Suppose the events of this universe have transpired the way we saw them previously, unless otherwise indicated. We have taken a look at what has been changed. Kinnaman), which is both an exciting decision and narratively responsible for Gunn.
Going from DCEU to DCU is not a free card to get out of the prison for Peacemaker
Part of the artistic motivation for Gunn to make the following “peaceful” The Suicide Squad “is a continuation of his career gaze on outsiders and inappropriate characters. As with “The Specials” and “Super”, “The Suicide Squad” of Gunn concerns a group of superheroes and anti-heroes B and C-List whose morality is decidedly everywhere. The most disgusting of the group, at least with regard to morality, is the Pacific (John Cena) itself, which, without a doubt, follows the orders of the chief of the squad Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) to cover all the proofs of the American involvement in a project of secret government. One of the ways that the peacemaker tries to make sure that is to murder a flag, which was ready to go against Waller’s orders once he discovered the truth behind the Starfish project. Although Peacemaker is not the main bad guy of “The Suicide Squad”, he is essentially the character of Turncoat, who, in some respects, is even more laughable for the public. So, “Peacemaker”, then, is Gunn’s experience to see if he can take such an unmanageable character and make him a beloved protagonist from another project.
Given the reception at the first and now second season of “Peacemaker”, we could certainly say that the mission was accomplished. What is impressive is how Gunn had an obvious and easy -to -use slate for the titular character (and the whole whole of the Ne’ER Do Wells show) with the transition from the DCEU series to the DCU. It would have been very possible for Gunn to say that “The Suicide Squad” has never happened to this new DCU peacemaker, or that this happened in a different way, and so on. Instead, Gunn looks at the connection to the film 2021 and turns the emotional knife even more. Now Peacemaker has not only to count with the murder of Jr. flag and to face the subsequent research of revenge that Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo) undertakes against him. He must also reconcile the fact that the woman he fell in love, Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), was the lover of Flag Jr. before his death. Then, there is the question of the alternative universe that Peacemaker found thanks to the stolen technology of his father, in which Flag Jr. is still alive and is in a relationship with Harcourt of this universe, which was involved with Chris Aka Pacemaker of this universe, that the pacime fish of our universe killed in the legitimate of the season. By keeping the repercussions of Chris’ error in life while introducing a parallel instance of peacemaker killing the bad man (a version of himself, fucking with subtlety), Gunn uses the material designed for the DCEU to nourish the DCU in an intelligent and emotionally vibrant way.
What else could be kept in the DCU DCU?
Although it may seem confusing, we generally know where the events of “Peacemaker” and its main characters are located. The jury is still absent, however, on which other characters and future projects within the DCU will be made elements of picking from the DCEU to continue. The chances are that the big characters of the brand, that is to say Superman, Batman, The Flash, etc., will not be in any kind of continuity with their DCEU exploits. However, the admission of Rick Flag Jr. of Dating from June Moone alias Enchanting “Suicide Squad” of 2016 (played by Cara Delevingne) in “Peacemaker” raises the question of whether this film also partially makes part of the DCU continuity. We know that Gunn concluded the file to confirm that “Blue Beetle”, the film DCEU 2023, is still mainly canon of the DCU. So, at least two, and potentially three DCEU films that keep canon elements for the DCU in the future.
The big question is whether this fragmentary approach to building the DCU will eventually bear fruit or if it could become a more important headache than it is worth it. There is no doubt that the general public is much more ready to understand these advanced narration mechanisms than they would have been about a decade ago, in particular thanks to the MCU multi saga, bringing a pile of previously established heroes, such as the teacher of Patrick Stewart Xavier and Wesley Snipes’s Blade, to his recent entries. Although it is likely that Gunn himself will get a headache or two by speaking to the media of whom and what is canon (if he has not already done it), the secret of all this in the long term is something that the filmmaker has already discovered, that is to say that it ultimately does not matter as long as the choices serve history and the character in a convincing manner. It is one thing to keep continuity simply to appease the literal spirit. However, “Peacemaker” illustrates that Gunn was not interested in taking shortcuts or checking the boxes, but rather wanted to keep the weight and the moral and emotional tension that make the “peaceful” so convincing. Although he is not yet clear how Chris can trust him, it is obvious now that the public is in big hands with Gunn and “Peacemaker”.
New episodes of “Peacemaker” deploy Thursdays on HBO Max.
